Claude Code
TL;DR
- Fable 5 is available now. Update to 2.1.170 to access a Mythos-class model that Anthropic says exceeds every model they have previously made generally available (more below).
- VS Code terminal sessions were silently not saving transcripts. If you launch Claude Code from VS Code's integrated terminal (or any shell that inherited Claude Code env vars), your sessions now actually appear in
--resume.
New in 2.1.170
2.1.170 (June 10, 2026)
- Introducing Claude Fable 5: a Mythos-class model that we've made safe for general use. Fable's capabilities exceed those of any model we've ever made generally available. Update to version 2.1.170 for access. https://www.anthropic.com/news/claude-fable-5-mythos-5
- Fixed sessions not saving transcripts (and not appearing in --resume) when launched from the VS Code integrated terminal or any shell that inherited Claude Code environment variables.
Notes
Fable 5 and the model ladder
Fable is a new model family, not an Opus bump. Opus 4.8 landed in 2.1.154 (May 29) as the top of the Opus line. Fable 5 sits alongside it as a "Mythos-class" model, a label Anthropic has not used before in Claude Code changelogs. The announcement link points to anthropic.com/news/claude-fable-5-mythos-5, so the Anthropic News pill may have more detail today. For model selection: /model to switch, and check whether your fallbackModel chain (added in 2.1.166) needs updating if you pin specific model IDs.
